NaNoWriMo

NaNoWriMo is coming up in September.

I need to have a couple projects. And I know September's going to be a busy month one way or another for me, so putting out something weighty and earthshaking just isn't going to happen. How fortunate for me that I can write scifi and fantasy fluff pretty much off the cuff.

So, here's the list of projects:

ASoTs. This one desperately needs work put into it, and I've been doing a scene or two for somewhere in the series every six weeks or so, but forward momentum is not the same as this leaping and lingering update process I've been mired in. This will be the hardest project for the month, and I'm setting up for it today and getting ahead of September a bit, but hope to have five polished chapters by September's end. I think that's difficult, but not unachievable, really. We'll see, though, as August's decision-points may make that impossible.

The Cadian Novel. I want this to be something along the line of Starship Troopers--the novel, not the movie--but with a decidedly 40k slant. This is still in development, but I have a lot of nice ideas for narrative format, unique elements, and characters that I'd like to work into it. The big challenge here is dealing with Abnett's almost complete ownership of cool Guard novels, and the blatantly similar writing styles he and I share. I've had several long conversations with Sheehan about this one, and I think I can do at least four chapters relatively easily, perhaps more if I work up a head of steam before September. Thinktanking will occur here from now on, so that I can go back and tweak ideas. Expect to see a fairly large prospectus for this novel in subsequent posts in coming days and weeks, with some test passages and character notes included.

The SW Novel. This one keeps getting started and then dropped. I think it's time. Of course, I may have to tweak it a bit when the codex hits, but I'm hoping that in its substance, it will carry through any rough waters with a minimum of turbulence. Again, this one will be getting planned out in subsequent posts shortly, both development and full-on chapter shots. Goal here is revision or present writing plus three to four good chapters.

Stay. It ain't a novel. Ain't gonna be a novel. But it is unfinished business, so I might as well put this in the hopper, too. We'll see how far we get with this one, but depending on what August holds, this might be a good time to stick a fork in it. Goal here is to be done with the damn thing.

That's what's on the agenda. Now, to stick to the plan....
